Wessex Advanced Switching Products Limited (WASP), as the only UK manufacturer of resistive touch screens, is always looking to improve production techniques to either meet demand or satisfy customer expectations.

The most recent innovation is the introduction of insert tail technology on touch screens. Generally insert tails are used when higher production volumes are required to obtain the most competitive pricing. Up until now these touch screens have been manufactured in the Far East where ITO coated glass is readily available in high volumes.

The advantages of using an insert tail, include, reduced waste of expensive ITO coated materials since the tail is not cut from a complete sheet. Standard tail lengths can be used to reduce costs and only two layers are required, improving visibility.

With this new facility WASP are able to supply prototypes quickly and much more cost effectively than using a Far East supplier direct. WASP also has Far Eastern partners who will take the original prototype design and use it immediately for their production runs. This gives the customer the flexibility to order prototypes in a shorter time-scale and is more cost effective with the knowledge that production orders can be fulfilled quickly by our Far East partner at competitive prices.

WASP are the first and only European manufacturer of touch screens to offer insert tail technology.
