Wasp (Wessex Advanced Switching Products) have developed a new capacitive switching systems to add to their range of membrane and silicon switch panels. These products were originally developed for Passenger Aircraft seating but can be used where there is a need for non-mechanical switching.
As with most of WASP products these can be designed to meet most conditions and can be used as conventional switching using a printed graphic overlay or can be incorporated in a see through overlay and used as a touch screen.
The system uses the body’s natural capacitance where the capacitive sensors identify the switching requirements with or without a touch. The use of a translucent front layer leans itself to backlighting and the panel can be totally sealed at the user end.
ADVANTAGES
- Can be used in close proximity as well as for touch
- Sense fields can be projected through dielectric material allowing vandal resistant panels to be easily produced
- No mechanical movement therefore no mechanical failures
- Any small metallic objects can be used as a sensor
- Endless applications
- Can be used as a touch screen
- Switch operational sensitivity can be easily adjusted
- Easily cleaned front layer
- Can overcome local environmental conditions that normally disrupt switching
