A fast, accurate prototyping service has been added to the many services offered to their customers by Wessex Advanced Switching Products (WASP) following the installation of a Fused Deposition Modelling (FDM) machine at their Havant facility.

This new equipment enables designs for seat/suite control units and other components to be produced in a realistic form giving customers the opportunity to see and touch component parts at a reasonable cost. Also, unlike some models, WASP are able to produce their prototypes in ABS plastic which makes them able to withstand constant handling without fear of breakage.

With the ability to produce accurate models in very short lead times from 3D CAD data, WASP can reduce the manufacturing time scale considerably. The machinery can also create high quality functional models with moving parts so that customers can see how parts like switches will look and function.

From modelling, WASP can apply surfaces finishes for a totally realistic appearance when prototyping concept models. Even special liveries can be sprayed on to the surface.

Alterations or changes in design at the modelling stage can save both time and money and WASP's designers and engineers can amend the CAD designs and have models available to customers in as little as 24 hours.
